The Kids Are Alright

Bunch of well-known stars in this. Not that bad, to be honest. Plot was kinda predictablel Kids of sperm donor decide to get in touch with their father which leads to their life getting turned upside down. One of the moms has an affair with him, but they seem to work everything out in the end with a  slightly open conclusion that leaves the rest open to the imagination.4/5

Post Grad

Love Alexis Bledel. One of my favorite actors ever. Such stunning blue eyes. Craig Robinson, Jane Lynch, Michael Keaton are also involved. Alexis graduates from college and is unable to get a job due to the economy and being set up in like every way possible. She has romantical hi-jinks involving her her bff who is in love with her and it takes her forever to realize she feels the same way about him too.3/5

Delnor Insomniac Cinema

Since I’m bored and have decided to take a break from watching series for awhile

A Mighty WindCaught this one at like 3:30am, right after I caught my fave, Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitters Dead, Starring the cast of The Spinal Tap Mockumentaries, pretty fun. Don’t care much for folk songs but the interstories intervelopping all the the characters from the past, breakdowns etc was pretty good. Not as good as Best in Show, or Drop Dead Gorgeous. But still good. Worth a watch. 4/5 Stars
Whip It!I expected a lot more from this movie having seen the trailer. Lukewarm at best. Acting could be better. Seems like Ellen Page does about the same in every movie she’s in. Drew Barrymore’s Directorial/writing debut. Forced storyline. All of a sudden she decides to become different? Why? There’s no reason given.3/5 Stars
Let Me In:Remake of the Swedish Let The RIght One In, which I haven’t seen yet. Not expecting to be scared to death of this either. Not too bad. They just wanted to be pals. Acting was alright. The girl from Kick Ass was pretty good.4/5 Stars

Don't Tell Mom...

Good Times!

So I’m sitting here at 2:30am, awake waiting for my drugs to kick in watching one of my favorite movies of all time, Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead. This came out the same time as Clarissa Explains it All and both Melissa Joan Clark and Christina Applegate at that time were my fashion icons. (I long for you Snick!) The best thing about for me is that this movie never gets horribly aged and I can watch it over and over again.

conversations about my stage 4 cancer
  • Kevin is this guy I went to Culinary School with. Or I attended while he attempted time and time again to pass classes and always hung around. He was always creepy and he earned the title Creepy Kevin without hardship. He never understood why it was wrong to try to be friends with girls in their younger 20's when he was his 40's. He's a nice guy but he means well. Some things just don't click.

  • Kevin: are you all better now ?
  • Nyssa: in what way?
  • Kevin: from your surgery
  • you are in my thoughts and prayers the whole time
  • Nyssa: i still have to go through chemo
  • and no, not really
  • Kevin: awwwww Nyssa. I will add you to my church prayer list if ok

The beginning of the beginning is the beginning...

Day Zero, or rather the day I decided to buckle down and go to a doctor’s appt, and do a few other errands I had been putting off was the day I discovered I had colo-rectal cancer.

I was 25.

It was like 8 in the morning.

And it was July 3rd. Holiday weekend. A sunday. And I was by my lonesome. I had decided to put this particular appt off for a long while, because I believed I didnt have medical insurance and that is expensive as shit to pay for. Then, Dad drops the bomb on me. I still have it. I had been having problems for awhile now. I dropped 30 pounds during the previous month, lost a ton of strength. I had the stomach flu for at least a month of this time. My back starting hurting intensely during the past couple of monthes. And so did my stomach.

So we open the restaurant for two days to a good reception and the following two we have off. Hence the appointment. And then I had another symptom to contend with. My stomach started swelling, like as to bloat, and it didnt go back down.

So I get the appt, do bloodwork, an xray and am told to go to the main hosptital to get a CT Scan. They see massive cancerous growths in my colon and abdomen.

I finally get the the doctor on the phone and he tells me I have cancer. I had to pry this from him. Not even in person, either. Then I begin to get upset. And he asks me why.

Why are you so upset?

Uh… did you seriously not just tell me I have cancer. So I get pretty pissed and have my way about that.

So My mom comes in and we make arrangements for surgery that week. And my story continues.
